Health Counseling

Medical-Link is committed to providing specialized mental health counselling services and groups that empower LGBT people – youth, adults, couples, families and parents – to live healthier, happier lives. We provide a range of services – free of charge – to those who have trouble accessing quality care due to poverty, homophobia, racism and social isolation.

Our counselors have an in-depth understanding of the issues and life difficulties faced by LGBT people. Many of our counsellors identify as LGBT and all are LGBT positive.

If you’re dealing with issues such as coming out, homophobia, gender identity, relationship difficulties, transitioning, anxiety and depression, we can help.

Well Trained Staff

At Medical-Link, we have more than 70 healthcare providers on our medical staff. These well-trained, dedicated professionals practice in the areas of: emergency medicine, family practice, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, pediatrics, psychiatry, podiatry, radiology, thoracic surgery, urology and vascular surgery.

Our physicians have completed their medical school and residency training at a variety of highly respected institutions. A residency-training program begins after medical school and can last from three to seven years, depending on the specialty. It is required that all of our physicians become board certified, which means they have met the high standards of one of the medical specialty boards. To become certified, a physician must complete post-graduate training in a specialty and pass an examination administered by the certifying specialty board.

Blood Pressure Checkup

You don’t always have to go to your doctor’s office to have your blood pressure checked; you can monitor your own blood pressure at home. This is especially important if your doctor recommends that you monitor your blood pressure on a regular basis.

Tips for Checking Your Own Blood Pressure

Medical Record Keeping

The medical record is a powerful tool that allows the treating physician to track the patient’s medical history and identify problems or patterns that may help determine the course of health care.

The primary purpose of the medical record is to enable physicians to provide quality health care to their patients. It is a living document that tells the story of the patient and facilitates each encounter they have with health professionals involved in their care.

In addition to telling the patient’s story, complete and accurate medical records will meet all legal, regulatory and auditing requirements. Most importantly, however, they will contribute to comprehensive and high quality care for patients by optimizing the use of resources, improving efficiency and coordination in team-based and interprofessional settings, and facilitating research.
